In short: we hold only what you give us through our forms or newsletter sign-up, a small number of details needed to run the site, and analytics data if you allow it. We do not sell personal data, run advertising or build profiles of the people who visit.

This policy covers alternativeinvestorportal.com and The Alternative Investor, the publication we produce.
Our forms ask for your name, email address, firm and website, and whatever you choose to write. We also record the IP address the form was sent from, to protect the forms against abuse. We use these details to reply to you and to deal with what you have asked, such as adding or correcting a directory listing. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries about our service. Once your enquiry has been dealt with, we erase your name, email address, IP address and message within 30 days, keeping only a record of the outcome that does not identify you.
If you sign up to receive The Alternative Investor, your email address is held by Mailchimp, which sends the newsletter for us. Our lawful basis is your consent. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and once you unsubscribe we stop sending to you.
If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics records how the site is used: which pages are read, how visitors arrive, and which links out are followed. It does not tell us who you are. Our lawful basis is your consent, given through the choice we offer when you first visit, and nothing is collected if you decline. Analytics data is kept for fourteen months. Our cookie policy explains the cookies involved and how to change your choice at any time.
Bookmarks you save on the site stay in your own browser and are never sent to us.
If you ask to be the person who keeps your firm's listing up to date, we keep your name, work email and role so that you can make changes, and we confirm your authority by email before you can. Our lawful basis is your consent, given when you ask. We keep these details until you ask us to remove them, which you can do at any time.
Articles in The Alternative Investor carry their contributor's name and firm, as published. The site's archive search includes these names so readers can find a contributor's work. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in publishing the publication and keeping its archive available. If you are named and would like us to consider removing your name from the archive, please contact us.
Our directories describe firms: service providers, family offices, sovereign wealth funds and event organisers, drawn from public sources. They do not hold personal contact details for the people who work at those firms.
We use the following services to run the site. Each acts on our instructions and may use the data only to provide its service to us.
Past editions open in a reader hosted by Heyzine. That is a separate service with its own privacy policy, which applies when you use it.
We may also disclose personal data where the law requires us to, or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
Some of these services process data outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is made under safeguards recognised by UK data protection law.
You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to withdraw any consent you have given, and to have data you gave us transferred to another organisation. To use any of these rights, email admin@brodiecg.com. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first, and we will try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk.
We protect personal data with access controls, encrypted connections and by limiting who can see it to the people who need to. No system is entirely secure, and if a breach affecting your data ever occurred we would act on it as the law requires.
The site is intended for professionals in private capital and is not directed at anyone under 18.
When we change this policy we update the date at the top of the page. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we will say so clearly on the site.
For any question about this policy or your data, email admin@brodiecg.com or use our contact page.
